This Kit contains a colony of ants, usually of the Messor barbarus species. If you add another species to your order, different from the previous one, we will understand that you prefer the one you have selected, since we only send one colony per order or anthill. Never two, or three, etc.
You will receive the ants inside a test tube with food and water for two weeks. They were born inside the test tube and they are well there.
Contents:
1x Antcork lite: 96mm high, 96mm wide, 76mm depth
1x Complete Camponotus barbaricus colony, with queen, 5-15 workers, eggs and larvae.
1x Trough.
1x Water trough.
1x 10 ml protein syrup.
The Cork kit (Antcork Lite) is a cork ant's nest with a young Camponotus barbaricus colony, a perfect ant for this model. It's a transparent container with a vent grille on the upper lid and a side connection hole to link it with foraging boxes, tubes, nests, etc. The front of the nest is made of cork and it has four galleries and an upper exit tunnel. The rear of the nest has a cork base and a stick of cane as a support. This back side can be used to put the food, the water and some decoration if you believe it is convenient. The top lid will allow you to access very easily to the Antcork. Anti-escape oil can be used to prevent escapes when the colony is very large and we open the lid to access the nest.
The parts of the kit are not fixed, as shown in one of the attached pictures. The Antcork can be disassembled for cleaning or renewal of the hosted colony. To do this, move the stick to one side and remove both the front and the cork base. To reassemble, place the cork front as close as possible to the front of the container, put the cork base and finally, once you have put pressure on the parts to avoid cracks, place the stick back to hold the structure and as an ornament.
Camponotus barbaricus is a very common species all along the Mediterranean area. In nature, it feeds mainly on sugary substances of aphids and insects.
Once you receive the colony, the first thing to do is feed the ants (sugar water or honey water). A syringe is used for that. Put a droplet using the syringe through the vent holes in the stopper of the test tube.
General details:
