The soldier fly (Hermetia illucens), also known as the Phoenix worm, is a large, elongated fly. Despite her imposing appearance, she is completely harmless and surprisingly clumsy in her movements.
The soldier fly is a valuable source of protein and low in fat, making both small larvae and adult flies a perfect food.
