Tropical Pink springtails (often identified as Coecobrya cf. tenebricosa, formerly mistakenly known as Sinella curviseta or Sinella sp.) are small hexapod arthropods (not insects, though closely related) commonly used as "cleanup crew" in bioactive terrariums. They are valued for their rapid reproduction rate and their effectiveness in removing fungi and decaying organic matter in warm, humid environments.

Tropical Pink Springtails (often identified as Coecobrya cf. tenebricosa, formerly and erroneously known as Sinella curviseta or Sinella sp.) are small hexapod arthropods (not insects, although closely related) commonly used as "cleanup crew" in bioactive terrariums. They are valued for their rapid reproduction rate and their effectiveness in eliminating fungi and decaying organic matter in warm, humid environments.

1. Appearance and Morphology

Coloration: They have a subtle pink or peach hue, often described as a light pink to pinkish-white color.

Size: They are tiny, approximately 1 to 3 mm long, making them ideal for terrarium microfauna.

Body: They have a soft, elongated body, with visible antennae and six legs. Jumping ability: They possess a forked structure under their abdomen, called a furcula, which they use like a spring to launch themselves 10-15 cm when threatened or for movement.

2. Behavior and Ecology

Decomposers: They feed primarily on mold, fungi, animal feces, and decaying plant matter.

Non-harmful: They do not attack live plants, healthy plants, or terrarium animals.
Activity: They are very active on the substrate surface, making them more visible than other springtail species.
Hardiness: Unlike temperate white springtails, Tropical Pink springtails thrive in warmer environments.

3. Habitat Requirements (Terrarium)

Temperature: They function best in a warm range of 22°C to 27°C (72-80°F).
Humidity: They require high humidity, preferably between 60% and 80%. Substrate: They thrive in moist, organic-rich substrates such as coconut fiber, sphagnum moss, and dried leaves.
Use: They are ideal for tropical terrariums, dendrobates (poison dart frogs) enclosures, and isopod habitats.

Due to their metabolism and larger size, they are much more effective than Tropical White.
